The great things you say aren't true until someone agrees. On LinkedIn, that's called an endorsement. People can endorse you for skills which they know you have.
Endorsements are nice to have in your profile because other people acknowledge your skills. LinkedIn requires you to enable endorsements. Here's how: Click the "Me" icon, select "view profile", scroll down to the "Featured Skills & Endorsements" section. Click the pencil icon to make changes. At the bottom left, click "Adjust endorsement settings". Where it says "I want to be endorsed", set this to "Y
